Grants Available in Ireland for Home Sensory Rooms

We all know the benefits of having a sensory room or Sensory space at home .
Providing a sensory space creates an environment for children to regulate emotions, improve focus, and feel safe.
While there is currently no dedicated Irish grant specifically for home sensory rooms or sensory equipment, families may be able to access funding through existing disability support schemes.
The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, administered by your local authority, provides funding of up to €40,000 (subject to means testing) for essential home adaptations.
If an Occupational Therapist recommends creating or adapting a room to meet a child's disability-related needs, works such as converting a garage, building an extension, or adapting an existing room may qualify.
In some circumstances, families may wish to explore whether a garden sensory room or modular garden building could form part of an approved adaptation project. As eligibility is assessed on an individual basis, this should always be discussed with your Occupational Therapist and local authority before any plans are made.
Families may also benefit from the Mobility Aids Grant, which funds smaller accessibility improvements where appropriate.
In addition, some families receive financial assistance for specialist equipment through the HSE, particularly where equipment has been assessed as clinically necessary.
Availability varies by location and individual circumstances, so it is best to speak with your local HSE disability service or Children's Disability Network Team.
